In vitro Cell Culture Module

vitro module

In contrast to other blood-brain barrier (BBB) models, the DIV-BBB reflects the anatomical aspects of in situ endothelial cell-astrocyte interactions. The DIV-BBB allows the formation of tight junctions that can be easily visualized using an electron microscope or experimentally verified with tracers. Moreover, the exposure to shear stress crucially modulates cell differentiation in vivo, and the DIV-BBB appropriately recapitulates this phenomenon in vitro.

Features of the In vitro Cell Culture Module

Features:

  • A controlled ratio of luminal to abluminal volume
  • Compact size (only 2.75 in long)
  • The electrodes are built into the cartridge.

Benefits:

  • Matches the in vivo volume ratio
  • Reduces the number of required cells
  • The TEER measurements are easy to perform.
  • Single use, no rebuilding of the cartridge required
  • Low cost

Specifications

  • Hydrophobic capillaries Accurel® PP Q3/2
  • Trans-capillary pore size nominal: 0.2 µm
  • Number of hollow fibers: 19
  • Total internal volume of the lumen: 0.0123 in3 = 0.202 cm3
  • Total internal surface area of the lumen: 2.09 in2 = 13.5 cm2
  • Volume of the extraluminal space (ECS): 0.070 in3 = 1.15 cm3
