Flocel Inc. is a biotechnology company dedicated in innovating and helping the research community in better conducting and advancing in vitro studies.

Flocel Inc. was founded in August 2004, with licensing from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for laboratory cell and tissue culture modeling. The technology licensed was a three-dimensional, dynamic, in-vitro model of the blood-brain barrier (DIV-BBB), developed by Damir Janigro, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Cerebrovascular Research at The Cleveland Clinic

Flocel has provided several innovative products with its DIV-BBB technology that are helping researchers in their in vitro studies in the United States and Europe.

Importance of Flocel

In contrast to other available models of the blood-brain barrier, the DIV-BBB respects the anatomical aspects of the in situ endothelial cell-astrocyte interactions. The DIV-BBB allows formation of physiological transendothelial resistance, and formation of gap junctions that can be easily visualized at the electron microscope or determined experimentally with the use of tracers.
